Arts & Music Impact

Impact on Arts at CUSD Schools

“It’s impossible to put into words what students miss out on without music in the schools. Music activates an entirely different part of the brain than academics and it’s also a great vehicle for self-expression. Early exposure in elementary school to music, which I know CEF makes possible, is so important. It provided me a foundation in music that led to my discovery of the double bass at El Roble and then the CHS Jazz Band where I was introduced to jazz bass. Currently, I am attending Oberlin College and Conservatory outside Cleveland, Ohio where I am double majoring in Jazz Bass Performance and Anthropology. Please consider a gift to CEF today to make sure the arts continue to be offered in the Claremont elementary schools.” —Kamran Curlin, CHS Class of 2018

“When I was in sixth grade at Mountain View Elementary, I really enjoyed my music class with my music teacher Donna Marie Minano. She also introduced me to acting, improv, and how to read a script which led me to my first stage performance in a production of Damn Yankees and then roles in The Secret Garden and Little Women. I feel so lucky to have had art and music at Mountain View thanks to CEF. Next spring I am excited to join El Roble’s Reader’s Theatre afterschool drama program and can’t wait to audition for another show. Thank you, Mrs. Minano and CEF!” —Ian Ho, 7th Grader, El Roble Intermediate
